China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) completed the installation of a domestically developed 8MW offshore wind turbine at the Phase II of Fuqing Xinghua Bay Offshore Wind Farmon April 28, making it the largest domestically produced wind turbine in offshore wind farms in China.
The project, located in Fuqing, has a planned installed capacity of 280MW and will install a total of 45 wind turbines, including three domestic offshore wind turbine prototypes with a capacity of 8MW or more from three brands.
The installed wind turbine is jointly developed by CTG and Goldwind. One turbine can generate about 200,000 kWh of electricity in 24 hours, which is enough to power 35,000 households for one day.
Commercialization of such large-capacity offshore wind turbines will not only reduce the cost of offshore wind farm development as well as operation and maintenance but improve the utilization rate of the ocean, which serves to drive better and faster development of offshore wind power.
