Phnom Penh, Cambodia - January 9-10, 2018 - Mr. Bi Yaxiong, Vice President of China Southern Power Grid recently attended the Exhibition of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Achievements held here and had meetings with H.E. Mr. Suy Sem, Minister of Mines and Energy of the Kingdom of Cambodia; Mr. Neak Okhna Kith Meng, Chairman of Royal Group of Cambodia and Mr. Keo Rattanak, Director-General of Electricite du Cambodge.
All parties exchanged in-depth views over issues including power grid connectivity, power investment and construction, further practical business cooperation and power professionals training.
During the meeting with Mr. Suy, Mr. Bi extended the personal greetings of Mr. Li Qingkui, Board Chairman, China Southern Power Grid.
During their discussions, Mr. Bi not only recalled a series of fruitful bilateral outcomes after Mr. Li’s talks with Mr. Suy in October 2016 but also reviewed the work CSG has done for Cambodia’s power network planning, development of Cambodian students studying in China and technical training on electric power.
Mr. Bi added that CSG was “open and willing to deepen bilateral cooperation in energy and electric power to boost Cambodia's economic and social development by giving full play to CSG’s edges in management, technology and capital”.
Mr. Suy likewise offered a brief account of the investments in Cambodia from Chinese enterprises.
He said, “Cambodia's Ministry of Mines and Energy welcomes the engagement of Chinese enterprises in Cambodian electric power construction and energy cooperation. As this year marks the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of China-Cambodia diplomatic ties, we hope that CSG could grasp this great opportunity for further effective cooperation with both the government and enterprises and set an example for Cambodia-China cooperation in energy”.
In the meeting with Mr. Kith Meng, Mr. Bi said, “CSG is willing to try new cooperation models with Cambodia's Royal Group for enhancement in bilateral cooperation. We hope that both sides can carry out all-round cooperation in various fields like power grid upgrading, integral energy management, new energy projects development and high-end equipment manufacturing according to Cambodia's needs.”
As Mr. Kith Meng noted, “Cambodia’s Royal Group looks forward to building deeper, more extensive and more pragmatic cooperation with CSG and jointly exploring the ways and mechanism for further cooperation. It is hoped that the bilateral cooperation could yield fruits as a gift for the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of China-Cambodia diplomatic ties”.
When meeting with Mr. Keo Rattanak, Mr. Bi said, “CSG will continue to carry out staff training programs and technical exchanges on electric power for Cambodia. We will continue to make efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in electric power projects and promote power grid connectivity among countries along Lancang–Mekong River by giving play to its own advantages in the pursuit of mutual benefits and common development.”
Mr. Rattanak said, “In recent years, Cambodia’s economy has enjoyed a rapid development. It needs the engagement of China’s enterprises in power supply, investment, construction and operation. We hope that CSG could continue to support and boost Cambodia-China electric power cooperation that serves Cambodia’s economic and social development.”
CSG’s Deputy Chief Economist, together with representatives from CSG’s Industrial Investment Department, International Cooperation Department and Yunnan International Co., Ltd. were also in attendance at these meetings.
