Freight vessels Shenhua-522 and Shenhua-526 successfully encountered each other near 34# Buoy on the shipping route of Huanghua Port on March 10, marking that China Energy’s 50,000-ton two-way route at the port opened to heavy-haul shipping for the first time. This would significantly increase the usage rate of berths at the port, and accumulate experience for future 70,000-ton two-way heavy-haul shipping.

Huanghua Port is an important sea outlet for west-to-east and north-to-south coal transportation in China, as well as a “golden route” of integrated transportation for China Energy. It has ranked first among Chinese ports in terms of coal shipping for three consecutive years, playing a vital role in guaranteeing the country’s energy supply. The shipping routes at the port total 43.48 kilometers. The 50,000-ton two-way heavy-haul shipping route project passed acceptance inspection in October 2021. It is the longest of its kind in the world, with a designed width of 270 meters.

After the 50,000-ton two-way heavy-haul shipping route was put into use, the average time cost by vessels operating at the port can be cut by nearly two hours, considerably enhancing the port’s operational efficiency and coal supply capacity. With the route’s throughput capacity further unleashed, the waiting time of vessels will be reduced and the operating costs of the port and vessels will be lowered.
