Shendong Coal Joins Hands with CAE Academician to Advance Green Development

Shendong Coal under China Energy joined hands with a research team headed by Peng Suping, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) to establish the Shendong Research Base on August 31, in an effort to promote green development through “starting a new undertaking” and build a demonstration zone for ecological conservation along the Yellow River and advance low-carbon development of energy enterprises as China is working to peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

Over the years, Academician Peng’s team has led and participated in many eco-environmental research projects of Shendong Coal, realizing fruitful achievements. In particular, the “key technology for underground water and surface ecological conservation in modern coal mining in areas with fragile ecosystems” and the “microorganism restoration technology for land reclamation in dry and semi-dry coal mining areas of western China and its application” that the team developed have both won second prize of the National Awards for Scientific and Technological Progress. All of the research results have boosted the development of Shendong Coal.

Ecological restoration of local coal mining areas has been an important component of the eco-restoration project throughout the Yellow River valley. “Coal enterprises can reduce CO2 emissions through efforts in green, intelligent mining, coal-fired power generation, and coal-to-liquids development,” said Peng. “Shendong Coal has rich experience in technological innovation and solid foundation in technological application.”
