Daduhe Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Development Company completed the building of a digital hydraulic engineering safety training base on March 12, which innovates approaches to training in the hydropower industry and empowers the company’s effort to construct the world’s highest dam.
Workers receive safety training with the help of a VR system.
The 315-meter-high Shuangjiangkou earth/rockfill dam is the highest dam under construction in the world, and has earthwork totaling 45 million cubic meters. Thus, the project has relatively high risks and is difficult to construct. To improve construction workers’ safety awareness and ensure safe, steady construction, the company has adhered to the principle of “intelligent construction”, explored a corresponding advanced training system with innovative training ideas, and built this digital hydropower power engineering safety training base.
The base focuses on training in digital scenarios. Through introducing technologies such as digital multimedia and VR, the former safety training base was digitized. The new base can simulate all possible risks in the construction of hydropower projects, so that trainees can receive “experience-based” education. The simulated scenarios enable construction workers to experience “accidents”, so as to enhance their emergency response capacity. This mode goes beyond traditional safety training methods such as lectures, videos and slogans, and helps workers substantively improve their vocational skills and safety awareness, thus guaranteeing safety in construction projects.
