Three Gorges Reservoir saw a replenishment of 10 billion cubic meters of water by March 26, an increase of approximately 50 percent on the same period compared with last year.
The move comes at a time when water consumption for agriculture, industries and households along the middle and downstream stretches of the Yangtze River recorded high demand. Experts said it will help alleviate the pressure on water consumption and support the economic recovery in those areas.
As spring farming begins and production resumes, China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) continues to increase water replenishment in the reservoir to raise the available water amount for irrigation in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River region.
In addition, CTG has adjusted the output of power units at the Three Gorges and Gezhouba power plants to meet the rising power and water demands as part of its efforts to support the economic growth in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River.
