The Wudongde Hydropower Station, owned by China Three Gorges Corp (CTG), completed the installation of rotor for #8 Unit at the underground powerhouse on the right bank on February 16, making it the second rotor installed within one week after the same mission for #5 Unit at the underground powerhouse on the left bank on February 13.
The installation marks that the Wudongde dam has successfully hoisted the rotors for four 850 MW turbine generator units and all these units will enter the final assembly phase, as the project is well on track to meet the target of starting operation by July 2020.
Wudongde hydropower station will house 12 units of 850 MW turbine generator with a combined installed capacity of 10.2 GW. The turbine generator rotor hoisted for #8 unit this time weighs 2,100 tons and has a maximum diameter of 17.77m, which is among the largest assembled pieces that have been hoisted for a hydropower station project under construction in the world.
The first batch of its units is scheduled to be officially put into operation in July 2020. All the 12 units will be fully operational in 2021.
