The Three Gorges Reservoir embraced the first flood of the Yangtze River on September 6 as the inflow water volume reached 54,000 cubic meters per second at 2 p.m. on the day.
Running at full capacity, the reservoir controlled the discharge volume accordingly with a peak clipping rate of over 50 percent, giving full play to Three Gorges Project’s due role as the backbone in the flood control system of the Yangtze River. The operation alleviated the pressure of flood control on the middle and lower reaches of the river while protecting the lives and property of local residents.
