Located on the Jhelum River in Punjab of Pakistan, Karot Hydropower Station started impoundment on Nov. 20, laying a solid foundation for the commercialization of the first batch units next year.
With an installed capacity of 7,200 MW, the project can provide about 3.2 billion KWh of clean energy annually after completion. It will meet the electricity demand of about 5 million people in Pakistan, which will ease the power supply pressure in the country.
The project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 3.5 million tons per year. During the peak construction period, it can provide more than 4000 local jobs.
